EXHIBITION “ARMENIAN COMMUNITY IN UKRAINE: HISTORY AND THE PRESENT” OPENS IN ARMENIAN NATIONAL ARCHIVES

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS:Exhibition entitled “Armenian Community in Ukraine: History and the Present” opened today in Armenian national archives on the initiative of State committee of Ukrainian archives and Armenian national archives. Nearly 100 documents from Armenian and Ukrainian archives are presented. Ukrainian ambassador to Armenia Alexander Bozhko noted that the cooperation once again confirms the ancient-long friendship between Armenian and Ukrainian peoples. “The historical documents of Armenian and Ukrainian archives give us an opportunity to have an idea about Armenian community, its role in the economic life of Ukraine and its relations with local authorities. These documents testify that Armenian and Ukrainian peoples many times supported each other during hard times”, A. Bozhko said. According to the head of State committee of Ukrainian archives Alexander Udod, this cooperation will be continuative. During the last months such exhibitions were organized in Kiev and Lvov and received great responses both from Armenians and Ukrainians. The head of the Armenian national archives Amatuni Virabian said the exhibition proves that establishing in Ukraine in 12-13 centuries Armenians were not considered refugees but citizens, who had equal rights. “Armenians and Ukrainians were and will continue remaining friends”, A. Virabian said. The Ukrainian delegation handed nearly ten new documents to Armenian national archives. The exhibition will last by the end of the year.
