1 minute read

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS:Council of Europe secretary general, Terry Davis, said today in Yerevan that he believes that everybody in Armenia wants the next presidential election in 2008 to be held fairly and justly. He said the Council of Europe will help Armenia to have transparent and clean vote and stressed the role of media. Concerning Russia’s decision to curtail the number of long-term international observers to watch parliamentary elections in member countries, which was supported by Armenia also, Terry Davis said this decision will not affect the number of observers the human rights organization will send to Armenia for a long-term observation mission. Foreign minister Oskanian explained that Russia wants long-term missions to have no more than fifty members, while the number of long-term missions to Armenia didn’t exceed 30 members. Russia’s proposal was supported by some other former Soviet republics.
