SERZH SARKISIAN RECEIVES COUNCIL OF EUROPE SECRETARY GENERAL

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS:Prime minister Serzh Sarkisian received today Council of Europe secretary general Terry Davis. The government’s press office quoted the prime minister as saying that Armenia’s cooperation with the Council of Europe is extremely important. Terry Davis said he had an opportunity to see some of historical sites of Armenia and learn about its cultural values during visits to Matenadaran Institute of Old Manuscripts in Yerevan, the Haghpat Monastery in northern Armenia and the Genocide Memorial. The government’s press office said their conversation was centered on the process of Armenia’s integration with European structures. The May 12 parliamentary elections in Armenia were said to mark progress on this path. The past elections were said to serve as a good ground for proper conduct of next year’s presidential election. Both men also emphasized efforts aimed at bringing regional peace and stability. In this context they referred to the resolution of the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict. Terry Davis said the Council of Europe is trying to help the sides establish an atmosphere of confidence which is very important for reaching a lasting peace.
