DZOR, JANUARY 21, ARMENPRESS:Years ago one of Armenian regions, Vayots Dzor, was famous for its carpet makers, but due the economic hardship of the last decade the art of carpet making was abandoned here. Carpet-makers were trying to revive this traditional craft which became possible only after a well-known Armen Carpet company decided to help local carpet-makers to resume operation of a local factory. The local branch of the company opened recently 20 new jobs in addition to previous 30. The average monthly wages are 20,000 Drams (less than $40). The controlling stake in the company belongs to US-based businessmen Megerian brothers. A similar branch of Armen Carpet operates in the town of Jermuk.
