Restoration work on the historic Ani bridge on the Armenia–Türkiye border will begin soon.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this during a briefing at the government headquarters, responding to an Armenpress correspondent’s question about what work Armenia had undertaken towards restoring the bridge, given that the Turkish side had completed the tender process.
“There is an agreement that we should carry out the bridge repairs jointly. A joint project has been approved, and, to avoid procedural complications, it was decided that the Turkish side would launch a tender and that the Republic of Armenia would also sign a contract with the winning company. We will complete these procedures shortly, and the restoration of the historic Ani bridge will begin,” Pashinyan said.
Armenia and Türkiye signed a memorandum of understanding on restoring the Ani bridge on 4 May, on the sidelines of the eighth European Political Community summit in Yerevan. The signing ceremony took place during the first meeting of the working group on the restoration of the Ani bridge.
