Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ararat Mirzoyan, has said he considers it realistic that circumstances could arise in 2027 or 2028 that would allow Armenia to apply for European Union membership.
Mirzoyan made the remarks during a briefing with journalists at the National Assembly.
“We are trying to stay closely aligned with the European Union in terms of our ambitions and its potential responses. So far, we have succeeded, and we will follow the same approach in our next steps, guided by two things: what we want and what they want. In other words, if we want to join, how ready are the 27 member states to respond positively to our membership? You will agree that it would be childish to take such steps without a warm response and preliminary discussions. And that is how we will proceed. I consider it very realistic that circumstances could arise in 2027 or 2028 that would allow us to submit our membership application,” Mirzoyan said.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had also said he considered it realistic that Armenia could submit a formal application for European Union membership in 2027 or 2028.
