Armenian interior minister reviews COP17 security preparations

Armenia’s Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan chaired a meeting with senior officials of the Police and the Rescue Service, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Environment.

According to the ministry’s statement, Sargsyan emphasized the importance of properly ensuring public safety during the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), an event of great significance for Armenia.

Police Chief Kamo Tsutsulyan and Rescue Service Director Aram Ghazaryan briefed the minister on the measures carried out and currently underway by their respective units ahead of COP17.

The heads of the services presented the work being carried out to ensure security at the conference venues, along major routes and in adjacent areas; maintain public order; organize traffic; and prevent potential emergencies.

The meeting also discussed the proper organization of service by the ministry’s units, personnel management, and coordination.

The minister issued instructions on maintaining public order, ensuring security, and effectively organizing the work of the Rescue Service.

Sargsyan also instructed officials to ensure that the public is properly informed about traffic restrictions, maintain regular contact with those responsible for security arrangements for COP17, and provide periodic reports on the progress of security measures.
