Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday that Armenia needs to build new roads and create alternatives to existing routes as the number of vehicles in the country continues to increase.
Pashinyan made the remarks during the October 1 Cabinet meeting while discussing road construction programs.
“We will soon face the problem of congestion on the roads of interstate and republican significance,” the Prime Minister said.
According to him, traffic difficulties are already observed on these roads on certain days and during certain seasons, so alternative routes need to be provided.
In this context, Pashinyan highlighted the reconstruction of the Yenokavan–Karmirgyugh road in Tavush. According to the Prime Minister, the existing dirt road will be paved for the first time. He also recalled the strategic importance of constructing the Atan–Yenokavan road.
Referring to the Ayghehovit–Vazashen–Paravakar–Aygepar road, Pashinyan noted that its reconstruction would provide another improved route leading to Berd.
According to the Prime Minister, improved road connections could contribute to economic and tourism activity in Berd and nearby settlements.
