Armenian parliament’s Civil Contract faction leader MP Arusyak Manavazyan and faction secretary MP Volodya Hakobyan have met with Swedish Ambassador Eva Sundqvist, Dutch Ambassador Marieke Monroy-Winter, and Belgian Ambassador Erik de Muynck.
According to a press release from parliament’s press service, the meeting addressed expanding Armenia-EU relations, the Armenia-EU visa liberalization process, and a number of issues related to cooperation in trade and the economy, politics, defense and security.
“Sweden, Belgium and the Netherlands are not simply European countries for us, but vivid examples of democracy, the rule of law and institutional culture. Through our program, we will seek to reach these standards in state-building. Democratic reforms are our political commitment and the main guarantees of our statehood’s security. We highly value your support in this regard,” parliament majority leader MP Manavazyan said, addressing the ambassadors.
The sides emphasized the importance of deepening and expanding interparliamentary ties, highlighting the role of parliamentary friendship groups in this context.
The faction leader also highlighted the importance of the EU observation mission’s presence in Armenia and welcomed the European Union’s temporary removal and reduction of customs duties on imports of certain Armenian goods.
At the envoys’ request, the sides also discussed relations with parliamentary opposition forces and other issues.
