Forty-four people were injured in France after a train derailed. The train was travelling between the Normandy cities of Rouen and Caen. According to Euronews, French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot announced this.
A mass-casualty emergency response plan was activated, and 130 firefighters, five medical teams and 80 vehicles were deployed to the scene.
A total of 44 passengers were injured, while an 18-year-old woman was hospitalised in critical condition. Tests found no alcohol or drugs in the train driver’s blood.
French railway infrastructure operator SNCF Réseau said train traffic had been suspended and power to the tracks had been cut to allow emergency services to carry out their work.
