Around 2,100 flights were cancelled at several airports across the United Kingdom the previous day due to a technical failure, The Guardian reported on September 9, citing aviation analytics company Cirium.
Problems related to flight schedules disrupted the plans of at least 300,000 passengers. According to the newspaper, the technical failure in the NATS air traffic control system occurred on September 8 and affected more than 15 airports across the UK. The causes of the failure are being investigated.
Sky News, meanwhile, reported that the largest number of flights were cancelled at London Heathrow Airport (182), as well as at Manchester, Luton and Edinburgh airports. Among airlines, British Airways was the most affected, with 81 flights cancelled, followed by easyJet with 24.
Passengers are still being advised to check the status of their flights before travelling to the airport.
