Tour of Armenia hailed as landmark event

The “Tour of Armenia” international professional cycling race could bring major changes to Armenian cycling, according to Ara Sadoyan, President of the Cycling Federation of Armenia.

Organizers held a press conference ahead of the race.

“The ‘Tour of Armenia’ international professional multi-day cycling race will be an unprecedented event for Armenian cycling. For us, this will be a wonderful start for further cooperation. ‘Tour of Armenia’ could become one of Armenia’s sporting calling cards,” Sadoyan said.

According to Michele Napoli, CEO of RCS Sports and Events DMCC, the work carried out for the “Tour of Armenia,” which began about two years ago, perfectly brings together the vision of sport and Armenia’s nature and visibility. “Broadcasting on various media platforms will be a wonderful opportunity for Armenia,” he emphasized.

Sixteen teams, each consisting of six cyclists, will participate in the “Tour of Armenia” international professional multi-day cycling race. The participants will include teams and athletes from various countries, including Japan, Italy, Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom, Thailand, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Germany, and others. The Armenian team will also participate in the race. More than 300 delegates in total, including athletes, team representatives, referees, and other specialists involved in organizing and conducting the race, will arrive in Armenia.

The “Tour of Armenia” international professional multi-day cycling race, to be held on September 10-13, comprises four stages, covers a total distance of 587 km, and includes 5,300 meters of elevation gain, passing through four provinces of Armenia (Gegharkunik, Tavush, Lori, and Aragatsotn) and finishing in the capital Yerevan (September 10: Gavar – Mets Masrik; September 11: Kirants – Stepanavan; September 12: Martuni – Dilijan/Parz Lake; September 13: Yerevan).

The Tour of Armenia is sanctioned as a Class 2.2 event on the UCI Europe Tour.
