Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs received Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan in Riga on September 7, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said in a statement.
The meeting addressed the expanding cooperation between Armenia and Latvia, reflected both in the recent dynamics of high-level reciprocal visits and in the steadily developing bilateral agenda.
Mirzoyan and Rinkēvičs exchanged views on specific opportunities for developing the partnership between the two countries, placing particular emphasis on the need to expand trade and economic cooperation. The sides also discussed mechanisms for diversifying economic ties and increasing access for Armenian products to European markets.
The deepening Armenia-EU partnership agenda was also discussed in detail. Mirzoyan stressed that Armenia highly appreciates the continued support of EU member states, including Latvia, for advancing Armenia’s European integration agenda. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the successful holding of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan in May this year.
The Armenian Foreign Minister and the Latvian President exchanged views on regional developments. Mirzoyan briefed Rinkēvičs on the new opportunities for economic development and connectivity that have emerged amid the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including ongoing work towards the implementation of the TRIPP project.
The meeting also addressed cooperation between Armenia and Latvia within international organisations, including in the framework of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which will be held in Yerevan in October.
