The detention of former Armenian Minister of Transport and Communications and former Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan has been extended for another two months. Beglaryan has been in custody since June 5.
He is accused of abuse of official powers and money laundering on an especially large scale.
The Anti-Corruption Committee earlier said that between 2004 and 2010, while serving as head of Yerevan’s Kentron district and Mayor of Yerevan, Gagik Beglaryan used his official position contrary to the interests of the service with the aim of transferring ownership of 27 properties, worth a total of 2 billion 327 million drams, to himself or persons affiliated with him.
According to the case materials, property obtained through criminal means was subsequently also laundered.
