Relations between Russia and Iran are steadily developing in all areas, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, TASS reported.
“As you know, we use every opportunity to meet, communicate and consult. Russian-Iranian friendly relations are steadily developing in all areas, in accordance with the letter and spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty,” the Russian President said.
He noted that Russia admires the courage and resilience of the Iranian people in defending their national interests.
Putin added that Russia and Iran are maintaining the momentum of their trade and economic relations despite the military and political situation in the Islamic Republic. He also said that Russia attaches great importance to expanding cooperation with the Islamic Republic in the humanitarian sphere.
Pezeshkian, for his part, said that relations between Iran and Russia are strategic and that this helps the Islamic Republic resist the United States.
“Our relations are strategic… We are confident that in this way we can resist the United States and all the sanctions they impose against us,” he said.
The Iranian President also thanked the Russian President for the support provided to the Islamic Republic during its conflict with the United States.
