The European Commission is tightening regulation of the US-based ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox services, Interfax reported, citing the European Commission’s press service.
“The regulator has designated the ChatGPT chatbot developed by OpenAI as a very large online search engine (VLOSE), and the Reddit internet forum and Roblox gaming platform as very large online platforms (VLOPs) under the Digital Services Act,” the European Commission’s press service said in a statement.
Each of the three services has an average of at least 45 million monthly users in the European Union, meeting the definitions of VLOSE and VLOP.
“This new status means that ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox will now be subject to a higher level of oversight and accountability within the EU, reflecting their significant impact on our citizens and societies,” European Commission Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy Henna Virkkunen said in the press release.
