Kazakh President calls on nuclear powers to resume talks and ban nuclear testing as soon as possible

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called on nuclear powers to resume dialogue and ensure the immediate entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBTO), Kazinform reported, citing the Kazakh President’s address on the occasion of the International Day against Nuclear Tests established by the UN General Assembly.

“By voluntarily renouncing the world’s fourth-largest nuclear arsenal, Kazakhstan made a historic choice in favour of peace, security and sustainable development. This decision met the aspirations of the people of Kazakhstan and demonstrated our state’s responsibility for the fate of future generations,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

He emphasised Astana’s unwavering support for the global nuclear disarmament movement and called for multilateral steps to reduce the threat posed by weapons of mass destruction.
