Iran welcomes possible meeting between Pezeshkian and Putin

Tehran has welcomed a possible meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which could take place on the sidelines of a forum to be held in Avaza, Turkmenistan, in October, RIA Novosti reported, citing Iranian Ambassador to Ashgabat Ali Mojtaba Rouzbehani.

“We maintain friendly relations with the countries participating in the Avaza forum, including Russia. A meeting between the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation would be a significant event for us, and we warmly welcome it. However, it will depend on the schedule and the time allocated for such political meetings,” Rouzbehani said.

According to the ambassador, once arrangements are reached between the sides, the leaders of Iran and Russia could meet to discuss issues on the bilateral agenda. He clarified that the same applies to the leaders of other countries participating in the forum.

Rouzbehani also said that the Iranian President had received an invitation to attend the events in Avaza and had warmly welcomed their significance. Preparations are currently under way for the Iranian President’s visit to Turkmenistan.

The events in question are also scheduled to take place in Turkmenbashi on October 7-9 and include a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, a summit of the leaders of the Central Asian states and Azerbaijan, as well as a Caspian Sea environmental summit.
