Nepal authorities estimate damage caused by flooding in north of country

Flooding in northern Nepal has caused an estimated 200 billion Nepalese rupees ($1.3 billion) in damage, RIA Novosti reported, citing Nepal’s Infrastructure Minister Sunil Lamsal.

“We have received information that damage to infrastructure amounts to around 200 billion rupees,” the minister said, adding that the flooding had caused significant damage to roads and bridges.

It was earlier reported that 60 workers at the Langtang Khola hydropower plant were missing. The plant is currently under construction.

Earlier this morning, a massive flow of water from China entered the Bhote Koshi River, causing serious damage in Rasuwa district. Authorities have issued a high-level alert for settlements along the river and further downstream.
