Motion filed to detain Sedrak Kocharyan and five others

Motions have been filed with the Anti-Corruption Court to impose detention as a preventive measure on six people, including Sedrak Kocharyan, the son of former President Robert Kocharyan, the Armenian Anti-Corruption Committee said.

“In the criminal proceedings being conducted by the Anti-Corruption Committee into cases of money laundering on an especially large scale, abuse of official powers and receiving bribes on an especially large scale, motions have been filed with the Anti-Corruption Court to impose detention as a preventive measure on six people arrested today, including the former president’s son, as well as A.O., who served as director of the government residences administration from 1999 to 2009, and members of his family. The detained former president, R.K., will be brought before the court after undergoing the necessary medical examinations,” the Anti-Corruption Committee said.

Earlier, the Armenian Anti-Corruption Committee said that six people had been arrested as part of criminal proceedings under investigation by the Committee, including the former president, his son and other individuals involved in criminal schemes.

The criminal proceedings being investigated by the Armenian Anti-Corruption Committee have produced factual evidence indicating that a person who served as President of the Republic of Armenia, acting in prior agreement with people close to him and using his official position, separated a number of valuable properties of public and economic significance from state ownership on various fictitious grounds and acquired them at prices significantly below market value.
