Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk has said that Moscow is ready to begin constructive dialogue with Armenia on phytosanitary controls, TASS news agency reported.
“The issue is not whether Armenia will ‘come to its senses or not,’ but that phytosanitary control requirements must be met. And, naturally, we are ready for such constructive dialogue. However, unfortunately, we see that there are certain problems on the Armenian side, and accordingly, such a dialogue is underway,” he said.
In recent months, Russia has imposed restrictions on imports from Armenia of numerous products, including flowers, fruits, vegetables, dairy products and other goods, citing alleged violations of phytosanitary and veterinary requirements.
Since June 12, Russia has restricted the import of all quarantine-regulated products from Armenia and their transit to other EAEU countries.
Russia began imposing restrictions on imports from Armenia ahead of the June 7 parliamentary elections. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly said that the restrictions imposed by Russia on imports from Armenia contradict the fundamental principles of the Eurasian Economic Union.
