Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that for peace between Yerevan and Baku to be lasting, it is also important for both Armenia and Azerbaijan to confront and come to terms with the fact that the territories of independent Armenia and independent Azerbaijan are identical to the territories of Soviet Armenia and Soviet Azerbaijan, no more, no less.
Speaking in parliament, Pashinyan said that to make the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan irreversible and lasting, it is necessary to stop the discourse in Armenia about the return of Armenians of Karabakh and the right of Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan to return, and in Azerbaijan about the “right of Western Azerbaijan and Western Azerbaijanis to return,” and to put an end to such discourse.
“This is an issue that needs to be addressed both in Armenia and Azerbaijan for the sake of our generations’ right to peaceful coexistence. The peace and peaceful coexistence of the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan is the right that we must make a reality and pursue today, and we must be able to overcome any discourse and action that contradicts this. We must stop looking for Armenia in Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan must stop looking for Azerbaijan in Armenia,” Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized.
