French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has instructed Nicolas Roche, Secretary-General for Defence and National Security, to create a cyber unit to respond to threats targeting French information systems, Le Figaro reports, citing a letter from Lecornu.

The decision was taken against the backdrop of large-scale hacking attacks. The new unit will be tasked with responding to cyber threats directed at France’s information systems.

Earlier, Amélie Verdier, head of France’s Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFiP), said her department had experienced three data breaches as a result of hacking attacks.
