The Houthis have forced 48 Saudi oil tankers to change course off the coast of Yemen since declaring a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia on July 20, Interfax reported, citing the movement’s military spokesman Yahya Saree on August 19.

“We prevented 48 Saudi oil tankers from passing. Of these, 34 turned back in the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, while we prevented another 14 from passing through the Red Sea,” he said.

Saree said that since July 20, the Houthis had carried out strikes on eight Saudi oil tankers — five in the Red Sea and three in the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea.
