More than 1,000 wildfires have been recorded across central and southern parts of the United Kingdom, The Guardian reported, citing the National Fire Chiefs Council.
The number of fires has exceeded the record figure of 1,017 recorded in 2025. The wildfire season is expected to continue until November, and the number of fires this year is expected to significantly surpass last year’s total.
An amber weather warning remains in place across six regions of the country, where 19 people were hospitalised due to the fires in the past 24 hours alone.
According to forecasts by the European Union’s climate monitoring service, extreme weather conditions are expected to persist in southern parts of the UK until August 19.
