Civil Contract faction MP Babken Tunyan, the candidate for chair of the parliamentary Committee on Economic Affairs, has proposed establishing a group in Parliament to respond to business-related concerns.
“I think we should establish a group in the National Assembly to respond to business-related concerns. Of course, there is a capacity issue here, but I believe it can be resolved. We will discuss this issue with the Human Rights Defender and can cooperate very effectively,” Tunyan said during the discussion of his candidacy.
He also highlighted the importance of expanding Parliament’s analytical capacity, proposing the creation of a separate fund within the National Assembly’s budget, whose resources could be allocated through outsourcing to conduct economic research.
“In a parliamentary country, Parliament should have significantly greater resources. One idea is for the National Assembly, in addition to its approved annual budget, to have a certain fund that could be used to conduct economic research,” he said.
Tunyan also highlighted strengthening cooperation with business associations and the academic community, conducting post-legislative monitoring of the effectiveness of laws already adopted, and ensuring that the public is properly informed about legislative changes as among his priorities.
