The opposition Strong Armenia faction’s MP Aram Vardevanyan passed a confirmation vote on Monday and was elected deputy speaker of parliament.
Fifty-three of the 105 MPs took part in the secret ballot, and all voted in favor.
The ruling Civil Contract parliamentary faction said on Monday that it would provide the votes needed to confirm Vardevanyan, Strong Armenia faction’s candidate for the third vacant deputy speaker position reserved for the opposition.
Strong Armenia holds 29 seats in parliament.
