Tehran airspace to close on July 6 for Ali Khamenei’s funeral procession

Tehran’s airspace will be fully closed on July 6 for the funeral procession of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The announcement was made by Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization.

“On Monday, which coincides with the funeral procession of the late Leader of the Revolution, Tehran’s airspace will be completely closed and no flights will be permitted,” the organization said.

Farewell ceremonies for the supreme leader, who was killed in U.S.-Israeli strikes on Feb. 28, will take place from July 4 to July 8 in various cities across Iran and Iraq, home to the main Shiite holy sites.

The burial ceremony will be held on July 9 in Khamenei’s hometown of Mashhad.

According to Iranian authorities, between 15 million and 20 million people are expected to attend the funeral.
