Armenia, Azerbaijan citizens to receive confidential channel for reporting missing persons, possible burial sites

A mechanism is planned to be established enabling citizens of Armenia and Azerbaijan to confidentially provide information about missing persons, including possible burial sites, according to an Azerbaijani official.

The announcement was made by Deputy Chief of the Azerbaijani State Security Service Sharafat Hasanov at the international conference titled “Modern Approaches and Strengthening Cooperation in Resolving the Issue of Missing Persons,” held within the framework of cooperation with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), according to the APA news agency.

The Information Data Management System (IDMS), developed by the ICMP, will enable all existing databases related to missing persons to be consolidated on a single platform and allow relevant state institutions to enter and process data in real time. As a result, information will become available more quickly, enabling prompt decision-making, according to the report.

The servers hosting the IDMS will be located within the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and access to the system will be granted only to trained employees of relevant institutions.

According to Hasanov, the system will enable citizens of Armenia and Azerbaijan to confidentially provide information regarding missing persons, including possible burial sites. The information provided will be used solely for humanitarian purposes, and those submitting information will bear no responsibility under any circumstances. The objective is to help clarify the fate of missing persons, he said.
