No final agreements on Ukraine were reached during the U.S.-Russia summit in Alaska, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said while speaking to reporters in Bahrain.
“There were proposals in Alaska, but there were no agreements in Alaska. If there had been an agreement, the war would already be over,” Interfax quoted Rubio as saying.
Rubio stressed that the United States remains ready to play any constructive role in helping bring the war in Ukraine to an end. He expressed confidence that Washington “must play a role in bringing the sides closer together” and in helping resolve the crisis.
Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that during the Russian-American summit in Alaska, the sides had reached an understanding on how to stop military operations in Ukraine and move on to negotiations.
“And now they tell us: listen, for now it is not working out, so let us make some more concessions. We did not concede anything there. We simply agreed on how to stop the military operations and proceed to resolving all remaining issues at the negotiating table,” Lavrov said.
