Lawmaker’s fugitive son taken into custody after surrendering to authorities

Member of Parliament Martun Grigoryan’s son, who had been wanted by authorities for a year, has been taken into custody after surrendering to authorities in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation into an alleged violent incident.

Martun Grigoryan represents the “Pativ Unem” (I Have Honor) faction in the Armenian parliament but ran for re-election on the Prosperous Armenia ticket in the June 7 vote.

The Investigative Committee said that the lawmaker’s son, Kamo Grigoryan, turned himself in accompanied by his lawyer. A court has remanded him in pretrial detention with restrictions on visitation. He faces charges related to alleged involvement in a group assault, hooliganism, and the illegal possession or circulation of firearms and ammunition.
