Cargo vessel hit by projectile in Persian Gulf

A cargo vessel was struck by a projectile while transiting the Persian Gulf near the Iraqi port city of Umm Qasr.

 According to TASS, the incident was reported by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre.

“UKMTO has received a report of an incident that occurred 40 nautical miles southeast of Umm Qasr, Iraq.

The cargo vessel was transiting the Persian Gulf when an unidentified projectile struck its starboard side, causing a powerful explosion,” the organisation said in a statement.
