Armenia and Iran discuss key trade and infrastructure projects amid push for deeper economic ties

Armenia’s Ambassador to Iran, Grigor Hakobyan, has met with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Hamid Ghanbari to discuss issues related to the Armenia-Iran bilateral economic agenda.

According to a statement released by the  Embassy of Armenia in Iran, the two sides reviewed ongoing joint initiatives and stressed the importance of ensuring their effective and timely implementation.

The discussions focused on projects in the fields of infrastructure, energy and the modernisation of border crossing checkpoints, as the two countries continue efforts to expand economic cooperation.

Hakobyan also welcomed the progress of construction works on the Kajaran-Agarak section of the strategically important North-South transport corridor, which is being implemented with the participation of Iranian companies. He underlined the importance of completing the project within the established timeframe.

For his part, Ghanbari reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s readiness to further deepen trade and economic cooperation with Armenia and to intensify the work of existing bilateral intergovernmental and sectoral working groups.
