Azerbaijan condemns drone attacks from Iran targeting Nakhchivan, summons Iranian ambassador

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has condemned the drone strike targeting its Nakhchivan exclave which it said was fired from Iran.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement that two civilians were injured in the attack.

It summoned the Iranian ambassador to convey a “strong protest.”

The Azerbaijani side reserves the right to take appropriate response measures, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.

"At around noon on March 5, drone attacks were carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Republic of Azerbaijan," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan said in a statement, according to the Azerbaijani APA news agency.

"One drone fell on the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another landed near a school building in Shakarabad village. We strongly condemn these drone attacks carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which resulted in damage to the airport building and injuries to two civilians. This attack on the territory of Azerbaijan contradicts the norms and principles of international law and contributes to increasing tensions in the region. We demand that the Islamic Republic of Iran clarify the issue within a short time, provide an explanation, and take the necessary urgent measures to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future. The Azerbaijani side reserves the right to take appropriate response measures,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
