Armenia will receive a €70.4 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for reforms in the water sector.

The bill was presented to lawmakers in parliament by Aramazd Ghalamkaryan, Chairman of the Water Committee.

“The project’s vision is to introduce resilient irrigation and water supply systems that will contribute to economic growth, food security, and balanced regional development. It will improve sector governance mechanisms, strengthen institutional capacities, introduce modern infrastructure, enhance the financial sustainability of services, and reduce climate risks,” he said.

The loan program will consist of the following components: water sector reforms; improvement of rural water supply and wastewater systems; modernization of irrigation infrastructure and system management; and project management.

The Water and Irrigation Services Enhancement Program Phase 1 loan agreement between Armenia and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development was signed in September 2025.
