Armenia and Zimbabwe held their first political consultations. The meeting was co-chaired by Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe, Ambassador Albert Chimbindi.
The consultations were preceded by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe on holding political consultations.
During the consultations, the parties discussed prospects for expanding the bilateral agenda, including promoting cooperation in agriculture, education, information technology, capacity building, as well as trade and economic sectors, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
The officials emphasized the importance of broadening the framework of cooperation and deepening existing collaboration between the two countries within multilateral platforms and international organizations.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Robert Abisoghomonyan presented Armenia’s priorities for the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), to be held in Yerevan in 2026. The importance of ensuring inclusive and multi-stakeholder participation during the conference was underscored in order to facilitate effective and targeted discussions on biodiversity and environmental protection issues. The Deputy Minister also highlighted the significance of the Leaders’ Summit planned within the framework of COP17.
The officials also exchanged views on a wide range of regional and international issues of mutual interest, including the process of institutionalizing peace in the South Caucasus and recent developments in Sub-Saharan Africa.
