The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Armenia has been opened in Punta del Este, Maldonado Department of Uruguay, the Armenian Embassy said in a press release.
The official ceremony was followed by a reception organized by Honorary Consul Wilder Ananikian.
According to the embassy, the event was attended by former President of Uruguay Luis Alberto Lacalle de Herrera, Mayor of Punta del Este Javier Carballal, Secretary-General of the Latin American Integration Association Sergio Abreu, Honorary Consul of Armenia in Bolivia José Marcelo Ortuste Gonzales, as well as parliamentarians, honorary consuls of a number of countries, public figures, and representatives of the Armenian community.
In her speech, Armenia’s Ambassador to Uruguay Mariam Gevorgyan emphasized the significance of opening the Honorary Consulate in one of Uruguay’s most developed tourist centers, noting that it would serve as an important bridge between the two countries and stimulate the expansion of trade, economic, cultural, educational and tourism cooperation.
The Mayor of Punta del Este, Javier Carballal, and Honorary Consul Wilder Ananikian also delivered remarks.
