Person with dual or third citizenship cannot run for prime minister: Pashinyan on Karapetyan’s candidacy

A person holding foreign citizenship cannot be nominated as a candidate for prime minister under Armenia’s Constitution and laws, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, commenting on the nomination of businessman Samvel Karapetyan by the “Strong Armenia” party.
Speaking to reporters, Pashinyan reminded that Armenian legislation clearly prohibits individuals with a second or third citizenship from running for the offices of either member of parliament or prime minister.
“According to the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Armenia, a person with second citizenship, and in this case also third-country citizenship, cannot be a candidate for either deputy or prime minister. Therefore, what you are saying does not exist either de jure or de facto. I do not consider it necessary to comment on something that does not exist,” Pashinyan said.
