The Ministry of Health of Armenia has denied as fake news an article authored by Turkish journalist Okay Deprem that claimed the authorities are planning to ban abortion.

Below is the full statement published by the Ministry of Health:

“On the news website Cgtnturk.com, and subsequently on OdaTV, another article by Okay Deprem was published under the title “The Ban on Artificial Termination of Pregnancy Is Now Also on Armenia’s Agenda,” which contains clearly false, unsubstantiated, and misleading claims.

We officially declare that no initiative is envisaged to amend the existing regulations on artificial termination of pregnancy or to introduce any ban within the Law “On Reproductive Health and Reproductive Rights of the Individual.” Any legislative initiative is subject to public discussion, and public awareness is ensured in advance of any proposed amendment to the law.

We also consider it necessary to emphasize that Okay Deprem has previously published, on multiple occasions, unsubstantiated and manipulative materials concerning the state institutions of the Republic of Armenia that have been denied by the authorities.

Such publications fall within the logic of information manipulation and hybrid influence tools.

We call on the public, media platforms, and social media users not to be misled by unverified information and to rely exclusively on official reports," the ministry said.
