Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan meets Chair of Russia’s Federation Council Valentina Matvienko

Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, who is in Moscow on an official visit, met with Valentina Matvienko, Chair of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the press service of the National Assembly said in  a press release.

The interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda, including political and economic cooperation, as well as educational and cultural ties, with particular emphasis on the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The parties emphasized the important role of inter-parliamentary ties in strengthening bilateral relations.

Special attention was paid to changes in Russian legislation on migration rules for foreign citizens, in particular the difficulties faced by Armenian drivers transporting goods to Russia as a result of these changes, as well as the steps being taken to resolve the issue.

The parties also discussed the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and other issues of regional interest.

 At the end of the meeting, Simonyan and Matvienko answered journalists’ questions.
