The Armenian authorities are currently conducting studies for the construction of at least four new sanitary landfills, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan said.
He noted that the studies are being carried out with the involvement of international organizations.
According to him, a separate waste disposal site is planned for Yerevan, located in the central part of the country. In other areas, waste disposal sites will be organized according to a unified system; in particular, the minister noted that several provinces may share a single landfill or use transfer stations.
Khudatyan also reported that a study on waste recycling is underway.
“We are open to cooperation with the private sector. We have received various proposals, some collected from communities and others from within the ministry. We are reviewing these proposals in parallel, and this is a priority for us,” the minister said at a press briefing.
