Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan departed for the UK on February 2 to participate in the 12th Plenary Session of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES 12) in Manchester, where he will remain until February 5.
The twelfth session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES 12) will consider a methodological assessment of the impact and dependence of business on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people. IPBES is the intergovernmental body that assesses the state of biodiversity and the ecosystem services it provides to society, in response to requests from decision makers.
In the context of Armenia hosting COP 17 in 2026, IPBES 12 will “provide Armenia with scientific knowledge, policy guidance, opportunities for international cooperation, and financial support, which can contribute to the country’s biodiversity conservation and sustainable development, as well as to potential bilateral cooperation with the United Kingdom,” the Ministry of Environment said in press release.
