Armenia holds talks with several countries on small modular nuclear reactor

The Republic of Armenia continues to work with countries possessing nuclear technology on the construction of a new nuclear reactor, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday.

“At the moment, we are working with all our partners — France, the United States, Russia, South Korea, and China — and the necessary decisions will be made after receiving reliable answers to all possible questions,” Pashinyan said.

The Prime Minister recalled that on August 8, 2025, in Washington, he signed three memoranda of understanding with U.S. President Donald Trump, one of which concerned the energy sector, including nuclear energy.

Earlier in October 2025, Pashinyan announced that Armenia had made a strategic decision for its next nuclear reactor to be small modular, and that discussions on this matter are ongoing with five countries.
