The Republic of Armenia ensures the security of all accredited diplomatic missions, including the Embassy of the friendly Islamic Republic of Iran, and guarantees the necessary conditions for their normal operation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has clarified in response to remarks by Iran’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami, concerning protests held in front of the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan.
The ministry noted that security was ensured for all gatherings in accordance with established legal procedures, guaranteeing the safety of both participants and the embassy building. During one of the gatherings, one participant was subjected to administrative arrest for failing to comply with a lawful request of a police officer.
The ministry emphasized that Armenia, as a democratic state, is obliged, within the framework of the Constitution, the Law on Freedom of Assembly, and its international obligations not to impede citizens' rights to freedom of movement and peaceful assembly.
