Security Council Secretary: Hybrid threats to Armenia increasing

While Armenia currently faces no immediate or long-term military threat, the risk from hybrid threats has increased several times, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan warned on Wednesday.

In his remarks at the AIISA Security Forum, titled Armenia and Peace: At the Intersection of Risks and Opportunities, Secretary Grigoryan emphasized the importance of recognizing that Armenia’s security environment and the nature of threats are changing.

“If there is no longer a short-term or long-term military threat, the risk of hybrid threats has increased several times. Most likely, Armenia will face more hybrid threats in the next five to six months,” said the Secretary of the Security Council.

According to him, this is the reason the government postponed the publication of the National Security Strategy.

“We have seen that August 8 completely changed our security environment. We have no prior experience living in this new environment, and the nature of threats is beginning to change. We need some time to gain experience and see how we respond to these threats,” Grigoryan concluded.
