Vagif Khachatryan, who is being held in captivity by Azerbaijan and has been sentenced to 15 years in prison on false charges, has been hospitalized. Azerbaijani APA reported that the condition of 70-year-old Khachatryan worsened on December 22, with breathing difficulties and heart pain.
According to Azerbaijani media reports, he was provided with first aid and then transferred to a medical facility of the Ministry of Justice. After undergoing intensive therapy and resuscitation measures there, Khachatryan’s condition did not significantly improve, and he was subsequently transferred to a state medical facility.
Khachatryan’s condition is currently assessed as serious. Intensive therapy continues.
In July 2023, Vagif Khachatryan, a 68-year-old resident of Nagorno-Karabakh, was kidnapped by Azeri border guards on July 29 during his medical evacuation carried out by the International Committee of the Red Cross. He was taken to Baku and faces fabricated charges.
