Government to introduce new unified emergency telephone number

The Armenian government will soon launch a new emergency telephone number, 112, which will replace the currently active three different numbers: 911, 102, and 101.

During the gradual implementation process, the three existing numbers will continue to operate and will automatically redirect calls to 112 as the general emergency number.

101 was originally the fire brigade number, 102 was for the police, and 911 was later introduced as a general emergency number.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Mkrtchyan said that having multiple emergency numbers can cause confusion.

“Citizens often do not understand in which specific cases they should call 102, 911, or 101. It is the state’s responsibility to ensure the effective handling of emergency calls, and any possible confusion can delay the response,” he said.
