The Chairman of the Water Committee of Armenia, Aramazd Ghalamkaryan, participated in the 14th Ministerial-Level Governing Board Meeting of the Regional Centre on Urban Water Management (RCUWM) in Tehran, Iran.

The Water Committee said in a press release that during a meeting convened by Iran’s Minister of Energy and Chairman of the RCUWM Board, Abbas Aliabadi, discussions focused on the impact of urban population growth on limited water resources, climate change and its effects on water quality, management, and the water cycle, the depletion of water reserves, and the need for coordinated international responses.

In his speech, the Chairman of the Water Committee emphasized that Armenia is ready to continue its constructive participation in the work of the regional center, including efforts aimed at strengthening overall water security in the region. Aramazd Ghalamkaryan highlighted that Armenia views the effective resolution of regional water issues as achievable through coordinated actions, complementary expert capacities, and long-term strategic cooperation.

It was reported that, accompanied by Armenian Ambassador to Iran Grigor Hakobyan, Ghalamkaryan participated in the 21st International Exhibition on “Water Industry, Water Supply, and Sewerage Systems” at Tehran’s International Exhibitions Center. He familiarized himself with technological solutions, services, and products offered by leading Iranian companies, assessed their potential applicability for modernizing Armenia’s water infrastructure, and established contacts for potential future cooperation.

The Armenian delegation also visited Iran’s Hydroelectric Resources Development Company, the country’s largest builder of dams and energy infrastructure.

During discussions with officials from Iran’s Ministry of Energy, Ghalamkaryan addressed a range of topics of mutual interest, including the possibility of holding the next meeting of the RCUWM Governing Board in Armenia.
