Permanent Representative of Armenia elected as the chair of United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs

On 5 December, at the 68th reconvened session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs, H.E. Mr. Andranik Hovhannisyan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the International Organizations in Vienna, was elected as the Chair of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs at its 69th session, Armenian Embassy in Austria said in a statement.

For the upcoming year, Armenia will preside over the Commission, which serves as the United Nations principal policymaking body on narcotic drugs and global drug control and is one of the governing bodies of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

In his remarks upon assuming the chairmanship, Ambassador Hovhannisyan expressed his gratitude to the Member States for the confidence they placed in Armenia. He reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to guiding the Commission’s work based on the principles of partnership, solidarity, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue.

Ambassador Hovhannisyan also expressed confidence that under Armenia’s chairmanship, the Commission will continue to advance international cooperation in implementing the international drug control conventions and in promoting comprehensive and integrated approaches to addressing the world drug problem.
