President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Armenia, Cornel Ionescu, on the occasion of Romania’s national holiday, Great Union Day, the Presidential Office said.
The President welcomed the Ambassador and congratulated him, as well as the leadership and friendly people of Romania, on the occasion of the national holiday, wishing peace, prosperity and continuous progress.
Expressing gratitude for the reception and good wishes, Ambassador Cornel Ionescu noted that he will continue his efforts aimed at expanding and deepening cooperation between Armenia and Romania.
During the meeting, issues related to activating initiatives and steps to promote cooperation between the two countries were discussed.
Both sides emphasized the full realization of the significant potential of economic cooperation, as well as the expansion of ties between the parliaments of the two countries. They touched upon the possibilities of implementing joint programs in education and science, high technologies, energy, civil aviation and other areas.
The importance of deepening cooperation within the European Union was also emphasized.
The sides particularly highlighted the importance of direct Yerevan–Bucharest flights, which contribute to strengthening economic, tourism and human ties between Armenia and Romania.
The meeting also touched upon two important international events to be held in Armenia next year - the COP-17 Biodiversity Conference and the European Political Community Summit.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on current regional and international processes, emphasizing the importance of overcoming existing challenges through peaceful negotiations and strengthening democratic principles.
